In this month’s employee spotlight, we’re getting to know Chris Lui, our Product Consultant. As part of the Service Operations team, Chris delivers presentations to our clients, demonstrating the ways in which our product can be beneficial to the company.

Chris graduated from SFU in Business Administration where she gained expertise in business strategy, financial concepts, and the art of building a successful product. Prior to working at FISPAN, Chris worked as a Product Analyst, where she contributed to the development of a brand-new financial product. Her responsibilities included assisting in the creation of both the initial and final stages of the product.

What drew you to FISPAN originally? And how has FISPAN changed since?

I was initially attracted to FISPAN due to my continuous involvement in the finance and fintech industry. Recognizing the pivotal role these sectors play in shaping the future, I firmly believe that FISPAN embodies the essence of the financial technology landscape. Over time, I've observed FISPAN's adaptability, a quality crucial in the fintech landscape. The company consistently enhances its features, demonstrating a commitment to staying ahead of industry trends. Moreover, FISPAN's proactive approach to understanding and addressing our clients' needs has contributed to its sustained growth and success in the financial technology arena.

What are you most passionate about at FISPAN?

At FISPAN, my foremost passion lies in the belief that our product has the potential to significantly streamline accounting workflows. The innovative solutions we provide, coupled with the dynamic environment at FISPAN, fuel my enthusiasm. I am deeply committed to contributing to the development and improvement of our product, ensuring that it not only meets but exceeds the expectations of our users. The opportunity to be part of a team that is driving innovation in the financial technology space, making a real impact on accounting processes, is what inspires and excites me the most.

Why did you choose a career in FinTech?

I chose a career in FinTech because of the dynamic and fast-paced nature of the finance industry. Finance, especially in the realm of FinTech, is known for its rapid evolution and relevance to contemporary trends. The excitement of working in an environment that is always changing and the inherent challenges associated with FinTech projects were compelling factors for me. I am drawn to the constant innovation, the challenge of solving complex financial problems, and the opportunity to be at the forefront of transformative advancements in the industry. Choosing a career in FinTech aligns with my passion for staying engaged in a field that is both challenging and ever-evolving.

What is one thing you wish you had known when you started out your career?

One thing I wish I had known when I started out my career is the importance of trying everything that interests me and being open to all opportunities. Early in my career, I may not have fully appreciated the value of exploring diverse experiences. It's crucial to embrace a variety of tasks, roles, and projects, as each opportunity contributes to personal and professional growth. Being open-minded and willing to step outside my comfort zone has allowed me to discover unexpected passions, build a versatile skill set, and develop a more comprehensive understanding of my strengths and interests. In hindsight, I would encourage my younger self to proactively seek and embrace diverse opportunities, as they often lead to valuable insights and unforeseen paths to success.

What do you like to do in your free time?

During my free time, you'll find me spending time with my dog, reading an exciting mystery book, cooking up delicious treats, enjoying tennis and badminton on the courts or sliding down snowy mountains. 📚🍳🎾🏸🏂

What do you find most challenging working at FISPAN?

Working at FISPAN has its unique challenges, with two aspects that stand out.

Navigating my first client-facing role has been a learning experience, requiring the ability to actively listen and cater to evolving customer needs. It's about more than just communication; it's about understanding and aligning our solutions with each client's specific challenges.

Additionally, the fast-paced nature of the financial technology industry demands quick adaptation and continuous learning. Keeping up with industry changes and swiftly incorporating new knowledge has become a crucial aspect of my role. These challenges keep the work dynamic and push me to grow both professionally and personally.

What motivates you?

I'm motivated by the thrill of tackling challenges, the satisfaction of overcoming obstacles, and the tangible rewards that accompany success. These elements drive my continuous growth and keep me energized in both personal and professional pursuits.

Where is your favourite place to eat in Vancouver?

My favorite place to eat in Vancouver is Mangai Cucina & Bar. They served the best pasta, but unfortunately, they are now closed. Next on my list is Carlino - amazing appetizers!

What was the best advice you were given and who was it from?

The most impactful advice I received was from my dad, who emphasized the importance of "living in the moment" and cultivating gratitude. This guidance has been a cornerstone in my life philosophy, reminding me to appreciate the present and be thankful for the experiences, relationships, and opportunities that come my way.
