FISPAN Wins Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers 2022

FISPAN continues to showcase the agility that allowed it to flourish during the pandemic.

Purpose-driven organizations attract the most passionate individuals, unlock the greatest talent, and develop the most innovative solutions. With this shared mentality that transcends into our business, FISPAN has been recognized as one of Canada’s Top Small and Medium Employers for 2022, recently announced in The Globe and Mail.

In the midst of the pandemic, which saw many organizations — especially small and medium businesses — forced to redefine their core business, FISPAN was able to continue accelerating its mission and vision as the shift to digital banking became an increasingly important part of everyday life. With the switch to remote work, we not only opened new doors to innovate our technology and solutions, but also enhanced the ways that we could offer an exceptional workplace environment for FISPAN employees.

“The growth we’ve seen here at FISPAN over the last year and a half has truly shown how resilient our employees are. Knowing what type of company we wanted to be from the start, we’ve worked hard to foster a supportive workplace that allows our employees to put their best selves forward,” says Clayton Weir, CEO and Co-Founder.

In its 22nd year, Canada’s Top 100 Employers is a national program that highlights the many organizations who lead their industries in offering extraordinary workplaces for their employees. Canada's Top Small & Medium Employers is one out of 18 editorial competitions that fall under the esteemed Canada’s Top 100 Employers project, recognizing the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that offer the nation’s best workplaces and forward-thinking HR policies.

Employers must be commercial, for-profit companies with less than 500 employees, and are compared to other industry organizations to determine the most progressive workplace initiatives. The following eight criteria are used for evaluation each year:

  • Physical workplace
  • Work atmosphere & social
  • Health, financial, & family benefits
  • Vacation & time off
  • Employee communications
  • Performance management
  • Training & skills development
  • Community involvement

FISPAN’s Reasons for Selection

Here are some of the reasons why FISPAN was selected as one of Canada's Top Small & Medium Employers (2022):

  • We are a smaller business (by employee size) that's experienced impressive year-over-year employment growth, adding over 30 new employees (as of April 2021 — since then, we have added an additional 50 members!)
  • We encourage employees to recharge through a generous starting vacation program that begins all new full-time employees with four weeks of paid vacation
  • FISPAN supports employee well-being through a formal mental health strategy that features the "CheckingIn" app, which encourages employees to practice daily mindfulness training

“Small and medium employers have the advantage of adaptability,” says Kristina Leung, Senior Editor at Mediacorp Canada Inc., the organizers behind the Top 100 Employers program. “They are independent and have always served as a ‘laboratory’ for the kinds of best practices we eventually see at larger employers. As new ways of working emerge, such as the growing interest in hybrid work arrangements, smaller employers have the flexibility to experiment and come up with solutions that work for everyone.”
